Football-Bundesliga - Siquet leaves Freiburg finally: Change to Brugges
Soccer-Bundesligist SC Freiburg officially lets go of Hugo Siquet. The 22-year-old joins FC Brugge and signed a four-year contract with the Belgian champion, as confirmed by the club. Neither team made any statements regarding the transfer fee.
Siquet joined Freiburg in January 2022 from Standard Liège. He couldn't establish himself and went on loan to Cercle Brugge during the winter break of the 2022/23 season, making 51 appearances.
"After intensive discussions, we have jointly decided to give Hugo the opportunity for a transfer," said Freiburg's Sporting Director Klemens Hartenbach. Left back Siquet returned to Freiburg for the start of the pre-season training but will now directly join Brugge's training session, as they are a Champions League participant.
Despite leaving SC Freiburg, Hugo Siquet will continue his soccer journey in the Football Bundesliga, but this time with FC Brugge in Belgium. The transfer marks his return to his home country after spending a fraction of his career in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The defence-focused player signed a substantial Four-year contract with FC Brugge, showing a strong commitment to his new club. His time at Freiburg, however, was marked by loan spells, most notably at Cercle Brugge.
The departure of Siquet is not the only transfer-related news surrounding Freiburg and Brugge. In January 2022, Siquet made his way to Freiburg from Standard Liège in Belgium, but his loan to Cercle Brugge during the 2022/23 season brought him back to familiar territories. Freiburg's Sporting Director, Klemens Hartenbach, acknowledges Siquet's potential and has granted him a transfer opportunity to advance his career, which seems to be moving at a fast pace.
