Several injured in accident between ICE and regional train

According to initial police reports, six people were slightly injured in a train accident on the line between Munich and Ingolstadt. However, this number could still change, the operation is still ongoing, said a police spokeswoman in the afternoon.

An ICE and a regional train had "grazed" each other at a switch at the station in Reichertshausen (district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm), the spokeswoman said. Whether one or both trains derailed in the incident remained unclear at first. The railroad line was closed. Police and emergency services were deployed in large numbers.

Despite the closure of the railroad line due to the accident, traffic in the area was significantly affected as alternative routes became congested. Furthermore, the incident brought back memories of a past railroad accident involving ice on the tracks, leading some to call for improved winter maintenance on the tracks.
