Investigations - Seeking ex-RAF terrorists - investigators measure crime scenes

Investigators have once again examined the scene of an earlier RAF terrorists' attack, specifically a supermarket in Hildesheim. A spokesperson for the Lower Saxony Criminal Investigation Office in Hannover stated that remeasuring works were being carried out at the supermarket. The investigators hoped to find new leads using modern technology. The spokesperson provided no further details. Garweg and Staub, along with the arrested Daniela Klette, are suspected of robbing the supermarket in 2016. The NDR had previously reported on this.

Surveying works also in Stuhr

There is CCTV footage of the supermarket robbery in Hildesheim. According to the spokesperson, two masked individuals can be seen in the video. On Tuesday, investigators conducted surveying works at another early crime scene, a supermarket in Stuhr.

The Prosecutor's Office in Verden has been investigating Klette, Staub, and Garweg since 2015 for attempted murder and armed robbery in several cases. Klette was arrested at the end of February in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Staub and Garweg are still being sought. They were part of the so-called third generation of the left-wing extremist Red Army Faction (RAF), which had killed over 30 people. In 1998, the RAF declared itself dissolved.

Ex-terrorists allegedly made millions during robberies

In the former terrorist's apartment in Berlin, the investigators secured several thousand items, including weapons, ammunition, and money. They found, among other things, a Polish assault rifle, a Czech machine pistol, and a convincing replica of a grenade launcher.

The investigators believe that Klette and her accomplices used these weapons and replicas during robberies. They are believed to have stolen around 2.7 million Euros. Previous reports suggested that Klette, Staub, and Garweg were responsible for crimes in Stuhr, Wolfsburg, Hildesheim, Cremlingen, Bochum, and Duisburg.

  1. The crime scene in Stuhr, similar to the one in Hildesheim, is also being thoroughly examined by investigators from the Lower Saxony Criminal Investigation Office (LKA) in Hannover.
  2. The arrested suspect Daniela Klette is linked to multiple robberies, including the one in Hildesheim, and her alleged accomplices Gerhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub are still at large.
  3. The NDR had reported earlier that Garweg, Staub, and Klette, suspected members of the third generation of the Red Army Faction (RAF), were involved in a supermarket robbery in Hildesheim in 2016.
  4. The investigators conduct meticulous surveys at crime scenes, utilizing modern technology to uncover new leads, such as in the supermarket robbery in Hildesheim, captured on CCTV footage with masked individuals.
  5. The Prosecutor's Office in Verden has been actively investigating the trio since 2015, charging them with attempted murder and armed robbery in various cases, with Klette being recently arrested in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
  6. The former terrorist's apartment in Berlin, which was raided by investigators, contained weapons, ammunition, and money, suggesting that the group had made significant profits during their criminal activities.
  7. The RAF, which was responsible for over 30 deaths, declared dissolution in 1998, but the legacy of their violence and terrorism continues to have an impact on Germany's criminal landscape.
