Second man in detention after several arson cases

Since 2018, fires have been breaking out regularly at the Hesse-Bavaria border. A Suspect is arrested in April 2024. But the fires are not over yet.

In the Bavarian-Hessian border region, there is a second suspect in custody following several fires. The 47-year-old man has primarily set fires in the Obernburg am Main area (Miltenberg district) since 2018, according to police and the public prosecutor's office. No specific danger to people existed in this regard.

Another suspect, a 43-year-old man, was arrested in April and confessed to individual acts of arson. However, arson cases in the border area continued afterwards. The man remains in custody.

During the investigation, the 47-year-old man from Hessen came under suspicion. During interrogation, he admitted to attempting arson in two cases and completing arson in four cases. He also stated that he had set more fires. The previously arrested 43-year-old man is not related to the 47-year-old man according to the police.

The fires in the border area between Bavaria and Hesse have been a source of concern for the local police. The forest cabins in this region have been targeted by the arsonist, leading to significant damages. The 47-year-old man from Hesse, currently under investigation detention, has admitted to setting multiple fires in the Miltenberg District. The police in Bavaria are collaborating with their counterparts in Hesse to put an end to this criminality in the border area.
