Schulze: AfD could damage Germany's image abroad
Saxony-Anhalt's Economics Minister has warned against the damage to Germany's image caused by the AfD's high poll ratings. In an interview with the Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper (Tuesday), the CDU politician said that, in his opinion, the strong performance of the party, which has recently been categorized as right-wing extremist in Saxony-Anhalt, is not yet a major problem for Germany's image abroad. "But one thing is clear: that could change quickly."
An increase in the AfD's power could have a negative impact on the skilled labor market, for example, said Schulze. For Saxony-Anhalt, however, the recruitment of skilled workers from abroad is "absolutely necessary". In order to avoid damage to its image, the AfD should never be allowed to assume government responsibility, said the minister.
The AfD's continued success in elections could potentially affect Germany's image at international parties. To maintain a positive image, it's crucial that the AfD does not gain control in government at the state level.
