School-going - Schleswig-Holstein starts into the summer holidays
In Schleswig-Holstein, for approximately 370,000 girls and boys at its general education schools, the summer holidays begin with the weekend. About 28,000 teachers also have teaching-free time. Nearly 32,000 girls and boys ended the school year with a graduation, as the Education Ministry announced.
On the mainland, the new school year starts on September 2nd, but on the islands a week earlier. The islands' children have a week longer autumn holidays due to many parents being employed in tourism.
Anyone setting off on a car holiday, be it within Schleswig-Holstein or further away, must, according to ADAC, reckon with time losses due to traffic jams. The airports have prepared themselves for a rush. However, on Friday, a worldwide computer glitch caused problems in air traffic and at various airports.
During their summer vacation, many students in Schleswig-Holstein opt for leisure activities, making the most of their time off from school. The weekend marks the beginning of the long-awaited break for over 370,000 students, also providing relaxing time for the approximately 28,000 teachers. When the school year resumes, both mainland and island students have different starting dates, with the islands enjoying additional leisure time due to tourism-related jobs.
