training camp in Austria - Satisfied close after XXL-test: 'This is really good'
Trainer Miroslav Klose was satisfied with the final test of his 1. FC Nürnberg in the training camp in Austria. "We have managed to implement a lot of what we discussed beforehand. That's really good. You can see that the focus is high during training and video analysis. And if they continue to perform like they did today, we will be very pleased," explained the 2014 World Cup winner after the 4:2 against English Football League Championship side Blackburn Rovers.
After an intensive training week in the training camp in Walchsee, Tirol, the Franken showed themselves to be effective over four periods of 30 minutes. For the second-tier Danish team, Danilo Soares (2nd minute), Lukas Schleimer (28th), Dustin Forkel (73rd), and Stefanos Tzimas (93rd) were successful. The Englishmen managed to shorten the lead through Dominic Hyam (34th) and John Buckley (118th).
"We completely changed things at halftime, brought in the youngsters and they continued to play well - that's just nice to see," reported Klose. "We had to find solutions to our playing style to deal with the opponent's tough play. And the best solution was to stay calm and score the second goal. That's what I want to see from the team."
This team will look different for the second-tier start on August 3 against Karlsruher SC. As agreed, the new defense chief Robin Knoche, who last played for Union Berlin and only joined his Nürnberger teammates on Friday, was missing. Kanji Okunuki and Finn Jeltsch were also not present. Benjamin Goller has to pause longer due to a broken collarbone. In addition, FCN still wants to make transfers.
Pre-season match against Juventus Turin
For a Czech newcomer, the success in the Rovers test was a strong signal. "We feel good. We have trained some things this week that we have implemented well today," said midfielder Michal Sevcik. "It was a very tough game with many direct two-on-ones and a high tempo. The result gives us confidence for the last two weeks of pre-season."
