To protect against the water volumes, according to the district, more than two million sandbags had been built. The last sandbags had been in the communities of Martinsrieth and Hohlstedt. "I would like to express my sincere thanks to all helpers for their support in this last chapter of the Helme flood."
After the flood disaster in Saxony-Anhalt's Mansfeld-Südharz District, extensive efforts were made for flood protection, including the use of over two million sandbags in various communities. Despite these measures, the Helme river still caused significant flooding in certain areas towards the end of last year. Following the flood, local authorities, such as Landrat André Schröder, praise the helpers who played a crucial role in placing and managing the sandbags, ensuring the safety of the commune.
