Riots in Dublin after knife attack on children
Following a knife attack in the center of the Irish capital Dublin that left several people - including three children - injured, serious riots broke out on Thursday evening.
As reported by Irish broadcaster RTÉ, two buses and a police car were set on fire and a store was looted. Police officers were also attacked and bottles thrown at them.
A police spokesperson blamed the attacks on far-right hooligans who committed serious acts of violence. "We are calling in reinforcements to deal with this," the spokesperson said, according to RTÉ.
A five-year-old girl and a woman were seriously injured in the afternoon attack. Two other children were also slightly injured. The suspect arrested at the scene is also said to have serious injuries.
The angry crowd continued to fuel the riots, with crime escalating in the area around Dublin's city center. Even children were reportedly caught in the crossfire, leading to calls for additional security measures.
