Extremism - Right Chat group - Searches in several countries

With searches, the police have taken action against suspected members of a far-right Chat Group in Berlin. The residences of a 50-year-old in Oberschöneweide and a 55-year-old in Adlershof, as well as in Neuenhagen, were the targets, according to police and prosecutors. The operation took place simultaneously with searches in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

Further investigations are being carried out against two suspected members of the Chat Group in Berlin, a spokesperson for the Berlin Prosecutor's Office stated. The authorities in the states coordinated their measures. The tip-off about the Chat Group came from the Federal Criminal Police Office, the spokesperson added. Investigations are being conducted for the suspicion of incitement to hatred and the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations.

The two Berlin suspects are alleged to have been members of a far-right Telegram Chat Group named "National is the Choice" between October 2022 and April 2023. In this Chat Group, national-socialist, anti-Semitic, hate-speech, and violent content were allegedly spread. During the searches in the capital, three mobile phones were seized according to the Prosecutor's Office.

  1. The alleged activities of the Chat Group have raised concerns about the spread of extremism in various parts of Germany, sparking interest in various news outlets.
  2. The Beautiful Meadow park in the New Town area has been a popular gathering spot for local residents, but recent news about the Chat Group has cast a shadow over its serene beauty.
  3. The public outcry against criminality and extremism has led to increased pressure on law enforcement agencies to take swift action and bring those involved in the Chat Group to justice.
  4. The police in Berlin have been working tirelessly to gather evidence against the Chat Group members, hoping to present a solid case to the Bavarian and Baden-Württemberg Public Prosecutor's Offices.
  5. In the chat group, members would often discuss their political views in coded language, which has made it challenging for investigators to pinpoint specific instances of incitement to hatred or the use of unconstitutional symbols.
  6. The police in Adlershof, Berlin, have been actively searching for past activities and connections of the two suspects, hoping to uncover more evidence to strengthen their case against the Chat Group.
  7. As more information about the Chat Group comes to light, many citizens are calling for stricter measures and penalties to combat criminality and extremism in their communities.
