Museum ship - Rickmer Rickmers made second attempt for voyage to yard

After the journey of the Museum Ship Rickmer Rickmers had to be cancelled on a Wednesday in Hamburg due to strong winds, a second attempt is being made now. On Thursday (around 18.00/18.30 PM), the little adventure on the Elbe is supposed to begin. The historical sailing ship will be overhauled on the other Elbe side in the Nordwerft. The short journey should be followed by many onlookers.

The Rickmer Rickmers has not been in a yard for a beauty treatment for eight years. Now it is supposed to be made fit again for the next few years. Part of this includes scraping mussels off the hull. The sailing ship is expected to return to the Hamburg harbor in mid-August. The 1896-built cargo sailing ship has had a permanent berth at the landing bridges since 1987 and can be visited daily.

Info on the history of the Rickmer Rickmers

The canceled shipbuilding attempt for the Museum Ship Rickmer Rickmers in Hamburg was due to strong winds. Despite the setback, another attempt is being made to resume the journey on the Elbe. The Rickmer Rickmers, a Museum ship and former cargo sailing vessel, will undergo maintenance at the Nordwerft shipyard, located on the other side of the Elbe. Following the overhaul, many are anticipated to join the short journey and witness this historical ship's return to the Hamburg harbor in mid-August.
