Protest at the airport - Rhein: Climate action goes on "Thousands of Holidaymakers Turn Back"
The Hessian Minister-President Boris Rhein (CDU) sharply criticized the action of climate activists at Frankfurt Airport. "These irresponsible and criminal climate chaos activists only want to cause as much damage as possible," the head of government stated on the platform X. "And that at the expense of thousands of holidaymakers who are looking forward to a few days of vacation. Anyone who endangers security must be harshly punished." According to the airport operator Fraport, around 140 flights were canceled due to the climate protest at Frankfurt Airport. For the rest of the day, delays in operations were to be expected.
Approximately three hours after eight people had entered the airport grounds, the previously closed runways were again free for flight operations at 07:50 am. The Federal Police arrested the activists of the "Last Generation" and handed them over to the Hessian State Police for prosecution, as a spokesperson reported.
