Public transportation - Report paves way for S-Bahn extension to Geretsried

Planned extension of S-Bahn Line 7 from Wolfratshausen to Geretsried is coming forward. A new study commissioned by the Bavarian state government can fund the project with federal funds, DB announced. The study showed that investments in the expansion in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district would be profitable.

The so-called benefit-cost analysis resulted in a value of 1.27 – projects with a value above 1 can be funded by the Federal government with subsidies. Therefore, the expansion would have positive effects, for example, on climate protection, leading to less road traffic and fewer traffic accidents.

The costs are estimated to be around 433 million Euros according to the latest calculation. This is more than previously assumed. According to DB, the reasons for the increase are higher construction and material costs. The plans include building three new stations in Gelting, Geretsried Mitte, and Geretsried Süd. Additionally, the Wolfratshausen station will be made barrier-free.

The proposed S-Bahn Line 7 extension, funded partially by German Railways (DB), will extend from Wolfratshausen to Geretsried in Bavaria. This transport project, located in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district, is projected to have significant profits, as indicated by the benefit-cost analysis. The expansion is expected to positively impact climate protection, reducing road traffic and traffic accidents. Despite the increased costs, now estimated at approximately 433 million Euros, DB remains committed to the project, which includes constructing three new stations and making the Wolfratshausen station barrier-free.
