Relationship with minor? - Investigation against NBA pro
The police in Newport Beach are investigating NBA professional Josh Giddey on suspicion of having a relationship with an underage woman. The police in the city south of Los Angeles announced that they were aware of allegations against the 21-year-old Australian from the Oklahoma City Thunder and were investigating.
When asked by the German Press Agency, a spokeswoman did not want to answer why the investigation falls under the jurisdiction of the authorities there. In the US states of California and Oklahoma, the age of consent is 18.
Giddey was asked about the allegations by journalists on Friday and did not want to comment on the content. "I understand your questions, I totally understand that you want to know about it. But right now I don't have anything to say about it," he replied, according to The Athletic. The NBA has launched its own investigation. Giddey played in both of the Oklahoma City Thunder's games on Saturday and Sunday.
Despite the ongoing investigation, Josh Giddey continued to contribute on the court for the Oklahoma City Thunder in their recent NBA games. Regrettably, the NBA career of the Australian player is currently tainted by allegations of a potential relationship with a minor.
