The Saarland Minister-President Anke Rehlinger (SPD) congratulated Ursula von der Leyen (CDU) on her re-election as the President of the EU Commission. "It gives Europe a piece of stability and continuity that she will remain at the helm of the Commission in these turbulent times. We need both," said the SPD politician in a statement. "I see a special responsibility for the old and new Commission presidents of the European Union to protect it from threats from extreme political camps and make it future-proof for the upcoming challenges," it continued.
