Second-league player Fabian Reese of Hertha BSC had to undergo surgery on his knee injury. The 26-year-old shared a picture of himself from the hospital in Berlin on Instagram on Friday and wrote, "The last hours have been more than turbulent, but I'm extremely happy to share with you that the operation went very well. From now on, my way back to the pitch begins and I promise you, it will be faster than expected."

It's still unclear exactly how long Reese will be out. He will definitely miss the season start in the 2. Football-Bundesliga with the games against SC Paderborn on August 3 and Hamburger SV on August 10. At the earliest, a comeback can be expected in a few weeks. It's unclear what impact the injury will have on a potential transfer. Reportedly, several Bundesliga teams are interested in Reese.

Reese was fouled roughly in a test game at Energie Cottbus on Tuesday (2:2). Hertha have only announced so far that their captain "will be out indefinitely." On their social media channels, Hertha shared a video of Reese's teammates with his number eleven jersey. In the clip, the footballers wish their colleague a quick recovery.

Besides Reese, Hertha must also give up on new signing Kevin Sessa. The 24-year-old midfielder sustained a severe knee injury and needs surgery, the Berliners announced.

Before the surgery at the beginning of the coming week, Sessa is supposed to stay with the team in Austria for training camp. The Hertha made no comments on the exact nature of the injury, the absence period is several weeks. Sessa had just joined Berlin from Bundesliga side 1. FC Heidenheim.

Hertha is in Austria for training camp until Saturday and will play several test games during this time.
