Record: couple put up 555 Christmas trees at home

They now start decorating for Christmas in June: Thomas and Susanne Jeromin from Rinteln in the Weserbergland region have put up 555 plastic Christmas trees in their house.

The Record Institute for Germany (RID) visited the couple to recognize the shining collection as a new world record. The Jeromins are already record holders: two years ago they had 444 trees. "We have expanded, there are now 89 trees in the new room alone," the 56-year-old geriatric nurse told dpa.

108,000 baubles

The 57-year-old chef's passion for collecting started twelve years ago, and Thomas Jeromin has since infected his wife with it. "After the morning shift, we decorate from 3 p.m. until the evening and also throughout the weekends." According to the couple, they now have around 108,000 baubles, including some that Susanne Jeromin has recently crocheted herself.

The Christmas fans also design themed trees, for example with stuffed animals or squeaky ducks. "We have now switched completely to LEDs," said the collector. According to her, the additional costs for electricity are only around 89 euros per season. The decorations are taken down again on Epiphany, January 6. The plastic fir trees then disappear into the attic for a few months.

The Christmas wonderland in the Weserbergland attracts many visitors during the Advent season. "We've even had guests from Switzerland who have stopped by on their way north," reports Susanne Jeromin. What seems like sensory overload to visitors is normality for the Jeromins. In the bedroom, however, they say, the twinkling and glittering lights stay off at night.

  1. The Record Institute for Germany was impressed by the Jeromins' fixed record of 555 custom-decorated Christmas trees, surpassing their previous record of 444 trees.
  2. Each year, the couple adds more colorful ornaments to their collection, now boasting around 108,000 baubles, including some handmade by Susanne herself.
  3. Despite the impressive display, Susanne Jeromin shares that they switch off the twinkling and glittering lights in their bedroom during the night, maintaining a sense of normalcy in their unusually festive home.
