RB Leipzig won its first friendly match of the pre-season with a 1:0 (1:0) victory over Nordost-Regionalligist SV Babelsberg on Friday. Eljif Elmas scored the goal in stoppage time of the first half.

"I fully agree with what I saw today. The last 14 days have been very energetic, the youngsters are pulling through. The old horses are leading. That was also reflected in today's game. It was men's football, even for the U19 youngsters", said head coach Marco Rose.

With only half a dozen professionals, but with talented new signings Assan Quedraogo (FC Schalke) and Maarten Vandevoort (KRC Genk) in goal, RB put in a solid performance with the experienced Kevin Kampl, Lukas Klostermann, or Mohamed Simakan. However, the fourth-tier team also showed impressive form and played at a high level. The next opponent for a test match is then on July 31 against Aston Villa in the training camp, followed by a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 4.

EM players expected

On Monday, the Hungarian national team players Péter Gulácsi and captain Willi Orban are expected for training. Then, shortly before departure for the US training camp (July 28 to August 4), Lois Openda, who was already a guest at the test match, as well as Benjamin Sesko, Yussuf Poulsen, Christoph Baumgartner, and Nicolas Seiwald are expected. "We're all going through that, that's something we've accepted from the start. We won't start making excuses about it", said Rose. The German national team players Benjamin Henrichs and David Raum begin their preparation in Leipzig on August 1 - both will miss the start of the training camp in New York.
