Football-Bundesliga - RB-Captain Orban: Party consistency could be an advantage
Willi Orban sees an advantage in the squad consistency at Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. "You have automatisms that you bring into the new season. We don't have such a big overhaul as the previous season. We have a good squad. There are many boys there who are internationally highly sought after, we don't have to hide from anyone and can go into the season optimistically", Orban said on a Wednesday after training.
The team's foundation is in place, although it's open what will happen with the offensive forces Dani Olmo and Xavi Simons. "We'll see what happens in the coming days. But we have boys behind them with brutal quality, who are ready to take the next step", Orban added and named Christoph Baumgartner and Eljif Elmas.
A lot of groundwork in preparation
It's the third day that the Hungarian national player has returned to the team training after the team's elimination from the EM group stage. Until Sunday, he had still been on vacation. The preparation phase is not the most beautiful time of the year, noted the RB veteran, who is starting his tenth season. "You do a lot of groundwork. It's part of it, even if it's not the star discipline. The coaching team does it very well, they work the ball a lot. You don't even notice that you've covered many miles on the tachometer", Orban said.
- Orban mentioned that RB Leipzig, hailing from Leipzig in Saxony, Germany, has a strong squad, with many internationally sought-after players, which gives them confidence heading into the Football-Bundesliga season.
- Despite the uncertainty surrounding Dani Olmo and Xavi Simons' offensive roles, Orban is optimistic, highlighting the quality of backup players like Christoph Baumgartner and Eljif Elmas.
- Constanz, presumably Orban's vacation destination, seemed to be a stark contrast to the intensive routine he's now back into, as he returned to team training three days after Leipzig's elimination from the EM group stage.
- Regarding the preparation phase, Orban, an RB veteran about to embark on his tenth season, acknowledged that it's not the most glamorous part of the year but commended the team's coaching staff for their excellent groundwork and hard work.
- Orban was once part of the Hungarian national team, and his return to RB Leipzig's training sessions may have been before their scheduled friendlies against international clubs like Hungary's Ferencvaros and Austria's RB Salzburg, both also competing in the UEFA Champions League group stages.
