Climate Group Protest - Public Prosecutor: Fine after Farbattacke too lenient

The public prosecutor's office does not accept the judgment against four climate activists for a Farbattack on the World Time Clock at Berlin's Alexanderplatz. The authority has lodged an appeal against the decision of the Tiergarten District Court on Thursday, as a spokesperson confirmed upon request. This was clearly below the application of the public prosecutor.

The court had sentenced the 22 to 28-year-old members of the climate group Letzte Generation to fines between €600 (120 daily fines of €5) and €2,100 (140 daily fines of €15) for joint damage to property. The public prosecutor had demanded probation sentences of six months for three defendants. A 24-year-old, who had participated in a protest action at Cologne/Bonn Airport only a day before the trial, was sentenced to nine months in prison.

The members of the Klimagruppe had admitted in court to having sprayed orange paint and prepared fire extinguishers on the landmark with spray cans on October 17, 2023. The damage amounted to around €9,680 according to the judgment.
