Train Quarter - Proceedings discontinued after fatal police shootings

Nearly two years after the fatal police shootings of a young man in Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel, the investigation against the officer has been discontinued. The police officer acted in self-defense, stated a spokesperson for the Prosecutor's Office. In August 2022, a 23-year-old man threatened two prostitutes in a hotel in the Red-light district with a knife. During the subsequent police operation, he severely injured a police dog with the knife. The situation escalated and shots were fired. In the ensuing chaos, the 23-year-old was hit in the head and died instantly.

The incident occurred in the Red Light District, specifically within the Railway Quarter of Hessen. The area has been known for its high levels of criminality. After the incident, the police conducted an operation in response to threats with a knife. Regrettably, during the chaos, the police had to use their firearms, leading to the fatal shooting of the 23-year-old man.
