Investigations - Possible car racing with two deaths - investigations are ongoing

In the case of the suspected racer with two deceased passengers at the Dortmund/Unna motorway intersection, investigations are continuing. The spokesperson for the prosecutor's office stated that it had not been clarified on the day following the incident who had been driving, but the car was driven off the road at high speed, plowed through several trees, and immediately caught fire. The two passengers - two men from Dortmund, aged 20 and 52 - lost their lives. According to dpa information, they were a father and son.

The police, based on initial findings, suspect that the fatal accident originated from a prohibited race with the driver of a highly motorized Mercedes. They also relied on statements from witnesses at the scene. The suspected racer (39) was arrested temporarily in his Dortmund residence a few hours after the accident on Thursday night. "He invoked his right to remain silent," described the prosecutor. The car, driver's license, mobile phone, and clothing of the man were seized.

The elaborate accident reconstruction along with the forensic analysis, according to the police, could take weeks. The spokesperson for the prosecutor's office also emphasized, "It's taking that long."
