Many people are attracted for a vacation or a break in the North. Particularly appealing are the coasts of the North and Baltic Sea. This is proven by the latest accommodation statistics.

Tourism in the North - Popular travel destination Schleswig-Holstein - More guests in May

In May, there were distinctly more female and male tourists who stayed for at least one night in Schleswig-Holstein than in May 2023. Approximately 7.5% more guests stayed in around 3220 hotels and pensions, as well as on 270 camping sites in the federal state. The Statistics Office North reported this.

The number of booked overnight stays also rose significantly. It increased by 6.5% to almost 4.11 million. Most tourists booked along the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts. The Baltic Sea took the lead in this regard. The Holstein Switzerland was also a popular tourist destination.

The data for the analysis were obtained from about 3220 accommodation establishments and camping sites with ten or more beds, or places. Permanent campers were not included.

The increase in tourists during May was not only limited to Schleswig-Holstein's cities, but also extended to popular vacation destinations like the North Sea and Holstein Switzerland. According to the Economic Impact of Tourism report, this rise in visitors contributing to the local economy is a positive trend. Interestingly, the Statistics Office North Sea has revealed that among the top destinations, the Baltic Sea coasts saw the highest number of booked overnight stays.
