Criminality - Police seek witnesses to fatal staircase fall at station
After a fatal staircase fall of a 55-year-old man at Uelzen train station, police are looking for more witnesses and victims of the alleged attack. An 18-year-old from Lüneburg is suspected to have pushed or tripped the older man, causing him to fall several steps down, as a witness observed. The man died at the scene due to a skull-brain injury.
The 18-year-old is in custody, charged with manslaughter. The officers want to find out from the witness if there was contact between the alleged perpetrator and the victim beforehand. Passengers or travelers who were at the Uelzen train station between 11:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. on Sunday night are asked to contact the police.
The suspect remained silent about the accusations, according to a police spokesperson. He was arrested by federal police shortly after the incident in the vicinity of the train station. The officers stated that he is a legally residing asylum seeker from Morocco.
The incident occurred at Uelzen, which is located in Lower Saxony. The police are urging people who were at the train station on Sunday night between 11:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. to come forward, as they might have valuable information. The suspected criminal is currently being held at a police station in Lüneburg, the city where he resides. Despite the accusations, he has chosen not to speak about the incident.
