During a raid in Greifswald, the police did not find a man in his apartment, as he no longer lives there. That's not a mistake, says the Interior Ministry.

Extremist Islamic Association - Police: No problem during raid in Greifswald

The Schwerin Interior Ministry rejected reports that there was an issue during a raid in Greifswald on a Wednesday. The search at the State Criminal Office was successful in the execution of the ban on the "Islamic Center Hamburg" association, the ministry stated. The conduct of the officers was not objectionable.

A spokesperson for the Interior Ministry had announced the raid on a Wednesday: "The execution of the search warrant in the city of Greifswald could not be carried out, as the person subjected to the measure no longer resided there. Investigations revealed that this person was currently residing professionally in Lower Saxony."

The AfD fraction leader in the state parliament, Nikolaus Kramer, spoke of an "embarrassing incident". FDP state parliamentarian David Wulff demanded a thorough clarification and better equipment for the police and constitutional protection.

Interior State Secretary defends action

Interior State Secretary Wolfgang Schmülling emphasized on Thursday that the operation had enabled a gain in knowledge. "Before the search measures, investigations by the LKA MV revealed that the person in question only temporarily resided at the given address."

Schmülling emphasized: "The LKA MV applied for a search warrant at the Administrative Court in Greifswald to determine beyond doubt whether the person in question was still temporarily residing there or had any procedurally relevant property at the address, which was not the case."

The person's professional orientation in another federal state was only discovered on the day of the search measures within the federal territory. "In essence, this is a routine police procedure in such a case," it was further stated.

  1. The Interior Ministry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where Schmülling serves as State Secretary, defended the actions taken during the raid in Greifswald.
  2. The raid in Greifswald was aimed at the banned "Islamic Center Hamburg" association, a fact confirmed by the Interior Ministry in Berlin.
  3. Despite reports of an issue during the raid, the police conducted their operations at the State Criminal Office in Greifswald without any significant objections.
  4. The AfD leader in the state parliament, LKA representative Nikolaus Kramer, described the incident as embarrassing, while FDP state parliamentarian David Wulff called for improved police and constitutional protection equipment.
  5. The September raids in Hamburg, targeting extremist activities, involved searches at several locations, including the Mosque association, as revealed by the Interior Ministry.
  6. The House search in Greifswald was not the only operation carried out by the German police, with raids and raids continuing in various parts of the country to combat extremism and enforce bans on certain associations.
