Pricier gear change - Police check A7 overtaking ban for trucks and trailers
Within a five-hour control on Autobahn 7 in Hamburg, the Police stopped nearly 200 drivers of trucks and trailers for overtaking. A total of 192 proceedings for traffic violations have been initiated, the Hamburg Police announced. On Autobahn 7, between the tunnel at Hamburg-Stellingen and the Elbtunnel, overtaking is prohibited for trucks, buses, and trailers for safety reasons. This is indicated on the electronic traffic signs along the lanes.
For the large-scale control "Mobile. But safe!" 22 police officers and women were in action, seven of them on motorcycles. Anyone caught on the overtaking lane was directly guided off the autobahn and stopped. In addition, the detached trailers and trucks were checked for technical defects and cargo security. At the beginning of the holiday season, cars with trailers were also in the spotlight, said Cedric Willgalis, Police Commissioner of the Traffic Directorate 2, to the German Press Agency.
The background of the controls is also that alone on the A7 this year, there have been around 150 accidents due to the fact that the overtaking ban was not observed before. Anyone who, as a driver of a truck or trailer, leaves their own lane, must pay a fine of 70 Euros and receives a point in Flensburg.
A total of 23 vehicles were examined in detail on Thursday. The police also discovered the manipulation of a truck. The driver was without the prescribed driver's card and had probably been on the road for too long. They also found defects in the Ad-Blue system and jammed brake lines. Ad Blue is a fluid that reduces exhaust emissions in diesel vehicles. The driver could not continue, the trailer was initially immobilized.
- During the traffic control on Autobahn 7 in Hamburg, the police noticed a truck with manipulated controls, specifically the Ad-Blue system.
- Despite the five-hour control on Autobahn 7, several drivers disregarded the prohibition of overtaking in the Elbtunnel, increasing the risk of traffic accidents.
- In addition to checking for traffic violations, the Hamburg Police also inspected the gear shifts and other controls of trucks and trailers to ensure they were functioning properly.
