Lüneburg District - Police arrest suspected ATM bombers

After the attempted explosion of an ATM in Embsen, in the Lüneburg district, the police have arrested three suspected perpetrators. The police discovered the men with the help of a drone early in the morning in a cornfield near the damaged vehicle, as a police spokesperson stated. In the car, investigators found several suspected explosive packages. The packages were controlled detonated. "We are assuming a professional criminal group," the spokesperson said.

According to the police's current knowledge, a passerby observed the men near the ATM in the night and alerted the police. An auto with a running engine was therefore in front of the bank branch. Before the police arrived, the men fled with high speed, as it was reported. Then the car had an accident, during which the men were slightly injured. The ATM was damaged, as the police spokesperson said. He assumed that the suspected perpetrators felt disturbed and therefore did not carry out the explosion.

The suspected perpetrators, who hail from Meisfeld in Lower Saxony, were believed to be part of an organized criminal group. The automobile they utilized during their alleged crime was a common, everyday vehicle. Despite their injuries from the accident, they managed to escape initially, leaving behind the damaged ATM. The incident took place in the Lüneburg District.
