Municipal election - Pforzheimer City Council starts with AFD as the strongest force
In Baden-Württemberg, there is an occasion unique to Pforzheim: With the AfD as the strongest faction, the newly elected city council will begin its work on Tuesday (5:00 pm). During the constituent session, the obligations of the newly and re-elected members of the council, as well as the appointment of committees, are on the agenda.
The AfD faction came in first at the election on June 9 with 22.0% of the votes, surpassing the CDU (20.8%). This can also be explained by defections from the ranks of the Christian Democrats. The AfD now has nine of the 40 city council members. This is three more than in the previous term and one more than the CDU, which holds eight seats unchanged. 17 lists participated in the election, all of which entered the city council with at least one representative. Some form coalitions as factions.
In Burladingen (Zollernalbkreis), the AfD's share of the votes in the communal election was even greater in Pforzheim, at 22.6%. However, both the Free Voters (30.1%) and the CDU (40.5%) performed worse. In other southwestern communities, at least one party or grouping received more votes than the AfD.
- The victory in the municipal election in Pforzheim, Germany, gave the Alternative for Germany (AfD) the largest faction, allowing them to commence their term in the city council on Tuesday.
- Despite the strong showing of the AfD in the election, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) still managed to secure eight seats in the Pforzheim city council, maintaining their presence in the local government.
- Interestingly, Burladingen in Zollernalbkreis saw an even higher share of votes for the AfD in their communal election, at 22.6%, but both the Free Voters and the CDU performed less favorably compared to Pforzheim.
- As a result of the election, multiple parties and groupings in different southwestern communities obtained more votes than the AfD, demonstrating a more diverse political landscape in these areas.
