train - Passenger Association demandstrack expansion in MV
The Passenger Association Pro Bahn is demanding the expansion of more railway lines towards the Baltic Sea. A better designed relief traffic is also necessary, said the regional chairman Marcel Drews. This is particularly important during holidays.
During the past weekend, the first of the summer holidays in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, there were overcrowded trains and train cancellations in regional traffic, as was reported on the DB MV platform X.
Departure times are also a problem
This was also related to the offer of the Germany Ticket, said Drews. It is an attractive option for many to come to the Baltic Sea cheaply. "On the other hand, the offer is not yet fully geared towards that," he said. In addition, many lines are restricted due to construction sites.
To make it more convenient for passengers, for example, railway tracks could be extended along the route to allow longer trains. Relief trains are already in use - however, there are still too few of them, and departure times are also a problem. "Many people also want to go to Usedom, but there are only really hourly connections there."
The rebuilding of closed lines could also bring relief, said Drews. For example, the Southern Connection on Usedom between Ducherow and Heringsdorf (Landkreis Vorpommern-Greifswald). In addition, the expansion of another axis between Berlin and Rostock could achieve a lot. In the last two decades, not enough has been achieved politically. "It shows that there is also a investment backlog that needs to be resolved," so Drews.
