CSD-Parade - Over 4,000 people at Christopher Street Day in Rostock
Social Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) emphasized the significance of the Christopher Street Days in Rostock during the event. "The CSD belongs to Rostock just as the queer community belongs to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Diversity is good and your visibility is good for MV," she said.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a land of diversity. "We have achieved a lot. We owe a lot to the CSD movement, which fights for the rights and visibility of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender and other queer people," the Minister added.
The CSD has been a fixed part of city life for more than two decades and has developed into one of the largest political demonstrations, explained Drese. However, incidents of discrimination and the alarming rise of far-right parties show that we still have a long way to go towards full acceptance, the Minister stated.
According to the police, around 4,200 people participated in the Christopher Street Day on Saturday in Rostock, walking peacefully through the streets in colorful outfits on a beautiful day. However, there were disturbances near Kroepelin Tor and Goetheplatz, where participants were confronted by hecklers. The officers identified the instigators based on tips and issued dispersal orders.
Stefanie Drese, the Social Minister from the SDP in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, highlighted the importance of Christopher Street Day in her home city of Rostock, emphasizing the region's acceptance and support for the LGBTQ+ community. The presence and participation of the queer community during CSD events have significantly contributed to the promotion of diversity and visibility in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
