schools - Opportunity program for schools can start

The Startchancen-Programme for schools has no obstacles left. The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag has released the first funds for the programme. It can begin on August 1, 2024. The programme aims to provide better educational opportunities for children and youth independent of their parents' social status. In Saxony, 183 schools will benefit, receiving a total of 43 million Euros annually. The programme runs for ten years.

"The Startchancen-Programme is the largest support the Federal Government has provided so far for better school and teaching quality in German schools," explained Torsten Herbst, the Bundestag representative of Dresden. He is the parliamentary manager of the FDP-Fraktion in the Bundestag. The funds of the programme will enable investments in a better and modern learning environment.

Furthermore, schools will receive a "Chancenbudget", with which they can set priorities independently, emphasized the FDP politician. Additionally, the development of teams of social workers, social pedagogues, and other professional experts will be supported.

The Budget Committee's decision to release funds for the Startchancen-Programme also benefits schools in Berlin, as they too can expect improvements.During the annual meeting of the Federal Assembly in Saxony's capital, Dresden, the importance of the programme was highlighted, acknowledging its impact in Saxony's 183 schools. The budget committee's decision is significant, as it allows schools in other regions, such as Budget committee's home region, to also potentially benefit from the modern learning environment the programme provides.
