Again, a inland vessel has collided with a railway bridge on the Hunte river. This time, it was the makeshift bridge in Elsfleth (Wesermarsch district) that was affected, following a similar incident in February when an inland vessel crashed into the same railway bridge. The railway police have yet to decide whether the makeshift bridge is still usable for trains, according to the Water Rescue Police.

During the afternoon incident, the ship's captain and another crew member were lightly injured, as reported by the Water Rescue Police. They are being treated at the hospital. The bridge house of the tanker ship was almost completely destroyed in the collision.

At the end of February, an 110-meter-long inland vessel had collided with the railway bridge, causing significant damage to the 118-meter-long structure. The makeshift bridge went into operation at the end of April.

Preliminary findings from the Water Rescue Police indicate that this bridge has also sustained heavy damage. The cause of the collision and the extent of the damage to both the vessel and the bridge are still unclear.

A spokesperson for Deutsche Bahn stated in the evening that investigations were ongoing to determine if the bridge was still usable. No definitive results were available at that time.

  1. The temporary bridge in Elsfleth, used for shipping traffic, was once again impacted by an inland ship, reminiscent of an accident in February.
  2. The collision resulted in injuries to the ship's captain and another crew member, requiring medical attention at the local hospital.
  3. The incident involved an inland ship, similar in length to the one that collided with the railway bridge in February, causing significant damage.
  4. Following the collision, the bridge house of the tanker ship was severely damaged, raising concerns about the safety of both the vessel and the temporary bridge.
  5. The Wesermarsch district in Lower Saxony, known for its shipping activities, has seen another accident involving a ship on the Hunte river.
  6. The makeshift bridge, which went into operation in April after the previous incident, is now under investigation by railway authorities to assess its structural integrity and continued use for shipping and railway traffic.
