The share of electric and hybrid drives in new cars in Berlin and Brandenburg increased in the first half of the year. The statistics office announced this on Friday. In Berlin, alternative drives accounted for 56.2 percent of new car registrations in the first six months, 4.3 percentage points more than in the first half of 2023.
However, the number of registrations in the capital decreased significantly, by 21.7 percent to 32,213. The number of new vehicles with alternative drives therefore also decreased, by 15.1 percent to 18,113. Of these, 4,720 were pure electric cars. 12,906 had a hybrid drive, i.e. both a combustion engine and an electric motor.
In Brandenburg, the number of new cars registered since the beginning of the year increased by 3.9 percent to 24,823. The number of vehicles with alternative drives grew even more, by 4.5 percent to 11,260. This increased the share of electric and hybrid cars in new car registrations in Brandenburg from 45.1 percent a year ago to 45.4 percent.
For comparison: nationwide, the share was 43.9 percent. In Brandenburg, the majority of new cars with alternative drives were hybrid cars, namely 8,063. Pure electric cars were 3,024 in Brandenburg.
