Forecast - No snow in sight for Christmas so far
According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the prospects for a white Christmas in large parts of Germany are not good so far. A lasting blanket of snow down to the lowlands is rather unlikely, explained DWD meteorologist Marcel Schmid in Offenbach on Monday. There are still many uncertainties. "The weather situation offers great potential for surprises. Anything is possible, from intermittent showers and snowfall to storms and continuous rain," explained Schmid.
According to the forecast, the coming days will be increasingly characterized by low pressure and it will be very windy. This Tuesday, high pressure will only persist in the south. However, according to the DWD, it is unclear whether the sun will be able to fight its way through the fog. In the north and center, rain will fall from dense clouds at times. It will be stormy in higher mountain areas. The maximum temperatures will be between 5 and 10 degrees, with fog remaining at 2 degrees in places.
From Wednesday, it will rain heavily in some areas with highs between 3 and 9 degrees. Above 800 meters it is reported to snow. It will be windy and stormy in the north-east. Gale-force winds are to be expected on the coast and in the mountains.
According to the forecast, Thursday will be stormy, overcast and rainy. The DWD expects heavy rain in the Alps and in the low mountain ranges, along with mild temperatures of 6 to 11 degrees. There is a risk of gale-force winds from westerly directions at sea and in the mountains. In the night to Friday, the DWD is expecting heavy squalls in some regions down to the lowlands and gale-force winds or gale-force winds in the mountains and on the coasts.

Despite the persisting uncertainties, the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach maintains that a substantial amount of snow is unlikely in the upcoming weeks, casting doubts on a white Christmas this year in many parts of Germany. Marcel Schmid, a DWD meteorologist, cautions that the current weather scenario is ripe for unexpected events, such as intermittent showers, snowfall, storms, and continuous rain.
Although rain showers and even snowfall are expected in higher mountain regions, the German Weather Service does not anticipate a significant accumulation of snow in lowland areas, as predicted by the ongoing DWD forecast.
Marcel Schmid also highlights that Germany's mountain country, with its towering peaks, is particularly susceptible to gale-force winds and heavy snowfall as the week progresses. Ski resorts and other high-altitude locales are encouraged to brace for potential disruptions due to the forecasted stormy and stormy weather conditions.
Unfortunately, the DWD's prediction indicates that Christmas celebrations, which rely on a festive, winter-like atmosphere, may be dampened by unrelenting rain and unpleasant conditions in the majority of Germany, making a traditional white Christmas a remote possibility.
