Double household 2025/2026 - No agreement - Green-Black postpones budget talks

After another high-level meeting between the Greens and CDU, the coalition has postponed the negotiations on the budget for 2025 and 2026. The budget commission will continue its deliberations, a spokesperson for the Finance Ministry announced after the commission meeting in Stuttgart in the evening. "There are still a number of questions open, such as additional requirements or staffing needs," they said. These will now be addressed in the further proceedings.

CDU state and faction leader Manuel Hagel stated that the administration must be modern, lean, and efficient. "Not always more administrative staff, but fewer paragraphs - that's our understanding of sustainability," Hagel said. They would continue to talk constructively with the coalition partner about this.

Green faction leader Andreas Schwarz stated that the talks would still be continued before the summer break. "Especially in the preparation of the budget for the next two years, thoroughness is more important than speed," Schwarz shared. For the Greens, education, security, promotion of innovations, and climate protection are important issues that they want to focus on in the upcoming budget.

The coalition can now distribute more money than previously planned in their negotiations. According to the Finance Ministry, the surplus from the previous year must be higher. "That makes good 1.2 billion euros," a spokesperson shared. The reason for this is mainly unused budgets from the previous year, which, after a strict review, could not be carried over to the next year. In addition, the country can expect additional revenues of around 150 million euros per year from the census results.

  1. In the midst of the delayed negotiations, Baden-Württemberg's CDU is advocating for a more efficient administration, as declared by party leader Manuel Hagel in Stuttgart.
  2. The CDU, under Hagel's leadership, believes in reducing bureaucracy rather than increasing administrative staff, as stated during a recent household conversation about sustainability.
  3. Meanwhile, Green faction leader Andreas Schwarz has acknowledged the need for careful consideration, emphasizing that thoroughness should prevail over speed during the ongoing budget negotiations.
  4. The CDU's stance on lean administration and the Greens' focus on education, security, and climate protection may lead to a potential challenge in balancing the budget, especially considering the double household expenses they need to account for.
  5. Unfortunately, a head-on collision of ideas might occur between the two parties, potentially putting the decision-making process for the 2025 and 2026 budget at risk of a costly collision.
