Leipzig Lake Land - Nature for bathing fun - Controls at Bockwitzer See planned

At Bockwitzer See south of Leipzig, control is to be increased to protect the environment. Swimming and bathing are only allowed in designated bathing areas at the lake. Boats, windsurfers, and stand-up paddlers are not permitted on the water.

Despite designated bathing areas and clearly defined rules, there have been numerous rule violations in recent times that endanger the sensitive ecosystem of the lake," the city of Borna announced. Therefore, the municipal order service is now intensively monitoring the lake. Violations of the rules will be enforced.

Bockwitzer See originated from the former lignite open-cast mine Borna-Ost/Bockwitz. It is part of the Leipzig New Lakes and is protected as a so-called Fauna-Flora-Habitat Area (FFH) under nature conservation.

The city of Borna, located in Saxony, has highlighted the necessity of stricter enforcement to preserve the nature protection status of Bockwitzer See, which originated from a former lignite open-cast mine. The violation of designated bathing rules in the area, often accompanied by activities like boating or stand-up paddling, could negatively impact the leisure activities that nature lovers and locals alike enjoy, such as taking in the scenic views and enjoying bathing fun. To uphold the ecological balance and ensure everyone can enjoy the lake, it's crucial to adhere to the regulations set in place.
