Murderer uses doctor's visit in Ludwigshafen to escape
The Ludwigshafen police are searching at full speed for a fugitive murderer. The man had escaped during a visit to the doctor when an accomplice threatened the prison officers with a weapon. The case is reminiscent of a similar incident a few weeks ago.
An inmate escaped from Ludwigshafen Hospital. According to the police in the second largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate, the prisoner fled on a black scooter without a license plate. Another person accompanied him. This person is said to have threatened the prison officers with a weapon. It is suspected that shots were fired.
The police are searching and carrying out a major operation at the hospital, including with a helicopter. According to the police, the prisoner comes from Mannheim prison in neighboring Baden-Württemberg. According to hospital manager Hans-Friedrich Günther, the man had been treated in the oral surgery department and was wearing handcuffs. The police called on people not to pick up hitchhikers in the Ludwigshafen area.
This is the second escape of a prisoner from Baden-Württemberg in Rhineland-Palatinate within a few weeks. A prisoner from Bruchsal Prison escaped on October 30 during a guarded excursion to a quarry pond in Germersheim. He had been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Karlsruhe Regional Court in 2012 for strangling a man. The man is still on the run.
