Decision - Münchner Verkehrsverbund holds onto Germany ticket

Guests can use the Germany Ticket within the Munich Transport Association (MVV) until December 31, 2024. This was decided by the MVV shareholders. MVV Managing Director Bernd Rosenbusch spoke of good news for all guests. However, he called on the Federal Government and the States to "urgently consider financing beyond 2025, preferably for the next ten years, to ensure the ticket is permanently secured."

The shareholders had agreed on the continuation because revenues and expenses for the Germany Ticket could not be balanced. The decisive factor was "that a sufficient new financing commitment from the Federal Government and the Free State has been made, and no compensation for tariff deficits for the Germany Ticket from the MVV duty bearers is required," according to a statement. The Federal Government initiated this financing commitment in the new legislative proposal to amend the Regional Funding Law.

"The Germany Ticket is going well and makes traveling with MVV not only cheaper but also easier. That's why we decided today to offer the ticket at least until the end of the year," said Oberburgermeister Dieter Reiter (SPD). However, how it will continue depends largely on financing from the Federal Government.

The Germany Ticket was introduced on May 1, 2023, as a digitally bookable, monthly subscribable ticket for regional and local transport at a price of 49 Euro. The Federal Government and the States are each paying 1.5 billion Euro in compensation for revenue losses among transportation companies until 2025.

Since this is not expected to be sufficient, the Federal Government announced last autumn that unallocated funds could be carried over to 2024. A necessary amendment to the Regionalization Law, which the cabinet is now pushing through, is a prerequisite for the monthly price of the Germany Ticket remaining at 49 Euro until the end of this year. The transportation ministers of the states have announced a price increase for the coming year, but have not yet specified the amount.

MVV-Info Germany Ticket

The Germany Ticket, introduced in May 2023, is primarily used within the Munich Transport Association (MVV) until 2024, as per the decision made by MVV shareholders. Bernd Rosenbusch, the MVV Managing Director, urged the Federal Government and the States to consider financing the ticket beyond 2025 for its permanent security. The railway system in Bavaria, where Munich is located, benefits from the Germany Ticket, making transportation more affordable and convenient for guests. The ticket is not only valid for local transport but also for regional transits, making it an attractive option for travelers within Germany.
