SAP Garden - Munchen will be the venue for the Handball World Championship 2027
The Men's Handball World Championship 2027 is also supposed to take place in Munich. The Bavarian state capital is to be the venue for the final round, as the Elders' Committee of the City Council has given a corresponding recommendation. A decision on the host cities is expected to be made in the full council meeting coming Wednesday.
Munich is specifically bidding for the organization of a group in the preliminary round with the participation of the German team. The venue is reportedly going to be the SAP Garden, which is scheduled to officially open at the end of September. Therefore, the Olympiapark Munich GmbH has submitted a corresponding bid to the German Handball Federation (DHB).
The DHB reportedly mentioned eleven arenas that want to be the venues for the tournament with 32 teams. Munich was the venue for the preliminary round matches without the German team's participation at the Men's Handball European Championship in January 2024. According to the city's announcement, the Olympia-Halle was sold out for four out of five match days with around 12,000 spectators.
