Morehouse College could potentially stop graduation ceremonies promptly if issues arise during President Biden's speech.
The scheduled commencement speech by President Biden at a renowned historically Black college this Sunday comes amidst clashes between school authorities and pro-Palestinian protesters. Led by law enforcement, these confrontations have been observed in recent weeks, as these protesters demand the closure of encampments and halt demonstrations on campus.
Thomas, the interviewed official, cautioned that any disruptions causing trouble during the ceremony or school services will not be tolerated. He added that zip tie usage on individuals would be avoided if faced with a choice. A fundamental need to protect attendees' enjoyment and no interference in the ceremony was emphasized in the statement.
The visit of Biden to Atlanta's campuses coincides with his campaign on securing another White House term, with a specific focus on swaying younger voters. However, he has faced criticism from several students due to his administration's support of Israel's military offensive in Gaza - leading to public disapproval.
CNN attempted to obtain a comment from the White House but received no response. Protests have appeared on various college campuses as students are clamoring for universities to end their ties with Israel.
Precautionary measures have been implemented, including police barricades, reinforced law enforcement presence, metal detectors, and numerous security measures. These are all set to ensure the safety of the attendees.
At different instances, Biden was himself subjected to some demonstrations during his speeches and campaign events. A speech about abortion rights hosted by George Mason University noticed more than a dozen protesters voice dissent over the administration's stance on Israel.
The President is also scheduled to address the commencement ceremony at the US Military Academy in West Point on the 25th of May. This development is being followed closely and is subject to updates as events unfold.
CNN's Samantha Waldenberg contributed to the story's creation.

US authorities will prioritize the safety of attendees and ensure a smooth graduation ceremony, choosing to avoid the use of zip ties if faced with a choice.
