Labor market - More people commute to work in Saxony-Anhalt
In the previous year, the number of people commuting to work in Saxony-Anhalt from other parts of Germany reached a new record high. According to a response from the Labor Ministry to a query from the Links Fraktion, over 22,100 people came to work in Sachsen-Anhalt from Western Germany in the previous year. In 2015, this number was approximately 15,500 people. The number of so-called "outpenders" or people commuting from Sachsen-Anhalt to Western German states decreased slightly in the same time frame. In 2015, around 75,000 people commuted to work in Western Germany from Sachsen-Anhalt, while in the previous year, there were about 73,000 employees. The districts of Harz and Börde, with their proximity to Lower Saxony and the industrial regions of Braunschweig and Wolfsburg, were the main contributors to this statistic, each with over 12,000 employees.
The Labor Ministry in Saxony-Anhalt is actively working to analyze trends in the Labor market, considering the significant influx of workers from other parts of Germany, particularly Western Germany. To improve traffic flow and manage the increase in commuters, the local authorities are considering infrastructure development projects in regions like Harz and Börde.
