Ex-Tengelmann boss - Missing billionaire Karl-Erivan Haub: pressure on public prosecutor's office grows - new investigations demanded

According to the broadcaster, RTL journalist Liv von Boetticher, together with criminal lawyer Julia von Dreden, has lodged a complaint with the public prosecutor's office in Cologne against the actions of the public prosecutor's office in the case of missing Tengelmann billionaire Karl-Erivan Haub.

The lawyer is demanding that the authorities initiate "formal investigation proceedings" against Christian Haub, the younger brother of the missing businessman. It is alleged that he made a false affidavit. In this affidavit, the 59-year-old stated in May 2021 that he had no indications or evidence that his brother could still be alive. Lawyer Julia von Dreden, on the other hand, considers it "absolutely unrealistic" that more than two years after his brother's disappearance, Christian Haub claims to have heard nothing about "a staged disappearance". Christian Haub also claims that he hired investigators to look into the case "for the first time in November 2020". According to RTL, this has also been refuted by other documents. Nevertheless, the Cologne public prosecutor's office does not yet see any initial suspicion of a criminal offense.

Mystery surrounding ex-Tengelmann boss Karl-Erivan Haub still unsolved

Against this background, it is "more than just doubtful" that the responsible senior public prosecutor has "even come close to dealing with the criminal complaint, both legally and actually, within the scope of his statutory duty to investigate", said von Dreden. With their complaint, the lawyer and the journalist now want to force a re-examination of the affidavit - in the hope of shedding more light on the mysterious case.

One consequence of the affidavit was the declaration of death for Karl-Erivan Haub, also in May 2021 - and thus the family-internal billion-euro deal to settle the inheritance. Christian Haub is now at the helm of the company.

Karl-Erivan Haub has been missing since a ski trip on the Matterhorn in 2018 and was declared dead by the Cologne District Court in May 2021. However, research by stern and RTL indicates that the former Tengelmann boss may still be alive. RTL reporter Liv von Boetticher had received indications that he was at least temporarily in Moscow in 2021. Rumors persist that the former Tengelmann boss may have deliberately caused his disappearance in Zermatt in order to start a new life in Russia.
