Silence-fox vs. Wolf's greeting - Ministry: Prohibition of the speaking jackal would be exaggerated
The Saxon Culture Ministry has no intention of banning the Thumbsup Fox in Kindergartens and Schools. The gesture resembles the nationalist Wolf Salute, which was shown during the European Football Championship by a Turkish player and many Turkish fans.
If a Teacher or daycare worker uses the gesture, this happens in connection with the words "Thumbsup Fox" or "quiet", to calm down a loud situation, a ministry spokesperson stated. "Exclusion of confusion with the Wolf Salute is essential." A ban on the Thumbsup Fox would be completely exaggerated.
Further clarification if necessary
The Ministry has not received any complaints about this matter. "If necessary, the topic can be taken up, discussed and clarified. Teachers and daycare workers have the necessary finesse and competence for this."
The Wolf Salute usually expresses affiliation or sympathy with the Turkish ultranationalist Grey Wolves Movement and its ideology. In Turkey, it is used by the ultranationalist MHP party, which is a partner in the government under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Saxony is known for its rich culture, as depicted by its Culture Ministry. The controversy over the Thumbsup Fox in Kindergartens and Schools has arisen due to its resemblance to the controversial Wolf Salute. Despite this, the Culture Ministry has no plans to ban the Thumbsup Fox in educational institutions. The UEFA European Football Championship in Dresden brought the Wolf Salute into the limelight, as it was displayed by a Turkish player and supporters.
