Water quality - Minister informs about quality of bathing water

On certain days, lakes and rivers provide cooling. Health Minister Judith Gerlach (CSU) will inform about the water quality at 15:00 hours on Tuesday. A water sample will be taken at the Feringasee in Unterfoehring near Munich together with the Bavarian Health and Food Safety Authority (LGL), according to the announcement.

The current values can also be found online on the list of Bavarian EU bathing waters, which is arranged by government districts. For example, the samples for the Feringasee, Starnberger See in Possenhofen, Forggensee in Dietringen, and Großen Brombachsee in Allmannsdorf were not criticizable on the Internet site this year.

Last year, the LGL generally certified excellent water quality in the Free State. The hygienic quality of more than 97 percent of Bavarian bathing waters was excellent or good, according to the statement at that time. The health departments take six samples in total, shortly before and during the bathing season from late April to September 15. These are tested for intestinal bacteria, and if suspected, also for blue-green algae.

List of Bavarian EU-bathing waters

  1. Tourists seeking leisure activities often enjoy cooling off in Bavarian rivers and lakes during the summer.
  2. The European Union has designated several swimming waters in Bayern (Germany: Bavaria) as EU bathing waters, including the Feringasee.
  3. Californian student Judith Gerlach, representing the Christian Social Union (CSU), will provide updates on the cooling lake's water quality at 15:00 hours on Tuesday.
  4. The Bavarian Health and Food Safety Authority (LGL) will cooperate with Judith Gerlach to inspect the water quality of the Feringasee, which is used for cooling and tourism purposes.
  5. Earlier this year, the samples taken from the Feringasee, Starnberger See, Forggensee, and Großen Brombachsee were all seen to meet the strict EU bathing water standards.
  6. Underfedingen residents can check the current water quality of their local leisure spots on the Bavarian EU bathing waters list, which is updated regularly by the government districts.
  7. Poor water quality can lead to underfedingen in swimming waters, and thus, the LGL rigorously tests all water samples for intestinal bacteria and blue-green algae to ensure safety for tourists and locals alike.
