Perspective for Shipbuilders - Meyer Werft's management sees opportunities for the future

The leadership of the crisis-ridden Papenburg Meyer Werft sees opportunities for the company in the face of a presented restructuring concept. "Although we still have a way to go, we are convinced that the company has the substance, the employees, and the will to bring the yard back on a growth track for a common effort," reads a joint statement from Werft CEO Bernd Eikens and restructuring expert Ralf Schmitz. According to the company's statements, Deloitte, the consulting firm, had presented an optimistic outlook in a draft for the restructuring.

Lower Saxony's Economy Minister Olaf Lies spoke of a central point for the further way with a view to the draft. The report attests the yard a strong order situation and a strong customer structure. "The goal is to make the yard competitive again in the next three years. This report provides the basis for that," said the SPD politician on Friday.

The yard, known for its cruise ships, is in its deepest crisis in its more than 200-year history. At the beginning of July, the management reached an agreement with the works council and IG Metall on a restructuring concept. 340 of the more than 3,000 jobs are therefore to be eliminated.

  1. Meyer Werft GmbH, with its strategic location in Papenburg, Germany, is seeking a future chance in Shipbuilding through the implementation of the rehabilitation concept presented by Deloitte.
  2. The restructuring concept, if successfully executed, holds potential for Meyer Werft GmbH to regain competitiveness in the shipbuilding industry, as highlighted by Ralf Schmitz and Bernd Eikens.
  3. Lower Saxony's support and commitment to the Shipyard's rehabilitation process are crucial, as expressed by Economy Minister Olaf Lies, who acknowledges the strong order situation and customer structure at Meyer Werft GmbH.
  4. Despite the significant impact of the restructuring, with 340 jobs set to be eliminated, the long-term perspective for Meyer Werft GmbH in Papenburg appears to be linked to its ability to resurge following the rehabilitation concept.
