In 2021, Bill and Melinda Gates chose to separate but continue their charity work. However, their paths have diverged, with Melinda leaving the foundation they shared. This gives her more opportunities to pursue her own philanthropic endeavors, particularly in supporting women and families.

Melinda French Gates is departing from the foundation she ran alongside her former husband, Microsoft founder Bill Gates. This move comes after witnessing the decline of women's rights in the United States and worldwide. "She's incredibly committed to this area, and with what's been happening in the world, she felt a strong need to convene and invest more deeply," said Mark Suzman, the head of the foundation.

The foundation Melinda is leaving is renowned for its impact on global public health. Since its inception, it has allocated over $75 billion, including efforts to eradicate polio. Between 1994 to 2018, Bill and Melinda reportedly contributed $59.5 billion to this foundation.

According to Melinda, she will have an extra $12.5 billion to allocate toward her efforts for women and families once she leaves the foundation. While she won't be a co-chair anymore, the foundation will be renamed the Gates Foundation, with Bill Gates assuming the sole chair position.

The couple separated in 2021 after being married for 27 years. Despite this, they declared their intentions to continue their humanitarian work. On the X platform, Bill wrote, "It's sad to see Melinda go, but I'm confident she'll make a significant impact in her future philanthropic pursuits." Melinda, worth approximately $11 billion according to Forbes, oversees some of her investments and charitable initiatives through her company Pivotal Ventures. Established in 2015, this firm places a primary focus on women and families.
