McDonald's launches McFlurry influenced by grandmothers.
Starting May 21st, McDonald's is introducing a 'Grandma McFlurry' - a scrumptious combination of syrup, vanilla ice cream, and crunchy candy bits, which the fast-food chain describes as "just like grandma's favorite hidden treat in her purse."
Although McDonald's hasn't disclosed the specific flavors of the candy in the McFlurry, some Redditors believe it might be butterscotch, akin to Werther's Original candies, a favorite among grandmas.
Tariq Hassan, CMO and CXO of McDonald's, expressed, "Grannies have always held a special spot in our hearts, and today they're making a huge impact, leading trends in fashion, decor, and now, even food with our newest McFlurry."
Interestingly, "Grandmacore" is an aesthetic on the rise among Gen Zers on TikTok that celebrates the coziness and quaint grandma interests such as knitting and baking. McDonald's is probably trying to tap into this trend, mimicking the success of their Grimace shake last summer.
The restaurant chain's sales have been dwindling lately due to customers hit by inflation opting for cheaper options or cooking at home. The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that, starting next month, McDonald's will launch a $5 meal deal to attract price-conscious consumers.

This new McFlurry at McDonald's, inspired by grandmothers, could potentially boost the company's food business. With the introduction of the 'Grandma McFlurry', McDonald's enters the food market trend that Gen Zers are embracing through the 'Grandmacore' aesthetic on TikTok.
