An older couple from the Kassel district observed a scam call and helped the police arrest a suspected criminal. They apprehended a 16-year-old on Thursday, who intended to pick up jewelry and cash from the couple's house, according to the police. Previously, a fraudster had identified himself as a police officer over the phone to the elderly couple.
The caller claimed that the granddaughter of the seniors had caused a fatal accident, and to avoid a prison sentence, a bail of 90,000 Euro was required. The man reportedly detected the scam right away, but continued to play along on the phone while his wife contacted the real police. He allegedly offered Schmuck and cash worth 20,000 Euro instead. Subsequently, the fraud gang sent the 16-year-old to the couple's house.
