Many Christmas markets open on Monday
Numerous Christmas markets in Germany open their doors on Monday. In Augsburg, Berlin, Frankfurt and Ulm, stalls will attract visitors with mulled wine, punch and bratwurst, candles and Christmas music.
In Frankfurt, for example, Lord Mayor Mike Josef (SPD) opens the Christmas market on Monday. Together with Vice President Michael Otto from Eintracht Frankfurt, he will light up around 25,000 energy-saving LED lights on the Christmas tree.
Many Berlin markets will also be taking part, for example at Rotes Rathaus and Alexanderplatz. The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner (CDU), is also expected to attend some of the official openings in the afternoon.
Most of the Christmas markets in Hamburg also start on Monday. The most popular event of this kind is likely to be the traditional Christmas market at the town hall, where the expected almost three million visitors will be able to explore almost 80 stalls.
Decorated stalls will also be inviting visitors to Lübeck from Monday with bratwurst, mulled wine, candy floss and Christmas decorations. In the south, Christmas fans can visit Augsburg's Christkindlesmarkt or Ulm's Christmas market from Monday, for example. The opening of Dresden's famous Striezelmarkt follows on Wednesday (November 29).
In Frankfurt, the custom of fixing a specific day for the Christmas market opening continues with Mayor Mike Josef and Vice President Michael Otto lighting up the market. Visitors to the Augsburg Customs House can also enjoy the charm of a traditional Christmas market starting from Monday.
