Labor market - Many businesses do not employ handicapped persons
In Saxony-Anhalt, many businesses fail to meet their obligation to employ the disabled, either not at all or only partially. According to the Regional Directorate of the Agency, around 33 percent of these businesses had no disabled employees among their socially insured employees in 2022. Previously, there had reportedly been approximately 19,300 disabled people employed.
Thirty-nine percent of the businesses fulfilled their employment obligation at least partially in 2022, it was stated. Businesses that only partially or not at all fulfilled their obligation must pay a compensation fee to the Integration Offices. For businesses that did not fulfill their obligation, this fee was increased as of January 1 of this year.
Over 80 percent of the employed disabled persons were reportedly at least 45 years old. Most people with Disabilities worked in the Processing Industry, Public Administration, or in the Social Welfare and Healthcare sectors, according to the information.
"The promotion of inclusion of people with disabilities in the workplace is a societal task that becomes increasingly important due to demographic development," says the Chairman of the Management Board of the Regional Directorate Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia, Markus Behrens. To reduce prejudices and achieve better integration, it is crucial that companies receive support.
The statistics reveal that a significant number of businesses in Saxony-Anhalt failed to meet their obligation to employ the disabled, with approximately 33% having no disabled employees among their socially insured employees in 2022. This impediment in employment could contribute to a larger issue within the Saxony-Anhalt labor market.
